Frederick Myers and 3. Mary Katherine Schanbacher. She married
(1) Michael Murphy July 03, 1883 in Assumption Church, Emmetsburg, Palo
Alto Co., Iowa. He was born Abt. September 15, 1852 in Hillsboro,
Highland Co., Ohio, and died July 07, 1922 in Emmetsburg, Palo
Alto Co., Iowa. He was the son of Stephen Murphy and Ellen
Scanlan.
Notes for Mary Katherine Myers:
There is some question about Mary Katherine's birth date and
place. She was born December 8 or 9, probably 1964, but possibly
1863 or 1865. She is believed to have been born in Wisconsin or in
McGregor, Iowa. Her tombstone says 1864-1944.
She came to Palo Alto Co., Iowa the year the Milwaukee Railroad was built there (1878).
She was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Palo Alto Co., Iowa on September 23, 1944.

(Note: A note from Anne Englemann, daughter, stated that Mary
Katherine's mother's name was originally Schanbacher, but was changed
to Baker at some point after her arrival in the U.S.

3. Mary Katherine Schanbacher, born March 02,
1821 in Hebsack, Schorndorf, Wuerttemberg, Germany; died March 30, 1896
in Emmetsburg, Palo Alto Co., Iowa. She was the daughter of 6.
Phillip Schanbacher.

Fred was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Emmetsburg, IA on March 1, 1917.
Fred came to the United States in the fall of 1852, (New York City). He
is supposed to have located in Jersey City, and some time after was
married to Catherine Schanbacher. They had five children.
The 1880 census indicates that both Frederick and his wife were from Austria.
1895 Census, Palo Alto Co., Iowa shows Fred Myers, age 67 and Catherine
Myers, age 74, born Catholic, born Germany, living in Freedom Twp.
Burial location: Grave of Fred and Katherine is located in the
third row east of the road which runs in front of the altar. It
is a tall stone - about 12 graves south of the altar.
Card in Emmetsburg Library indicates that Fred came to New York City in
1854 (incorrect - he was married here and first child born here in
1854), then to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1856, later to McGregor, Iowa,
Algona and Palo Alto Co. in 1871. Survived by 4 sons and one
daughter: Charles in California, Frank in Emmetsburg, John and AP
in Nevada Twp. and daughter, Mrs. M. Murphy.

Mary Catherine came to the United States with her father in 1853.
She was believed by the family to have been born in Germany, although
the 1880 census indicates Austria.
At the time of her death, Mary Catherine had been a resident of Iowa for 31 years.
The death record of her daughter Mary Katherine Myers Murphy gives her
mother's maiden name as Baker. The informant was Mayme
Murphy. Also, a note written by Anne Murphy Englemann states that
Mary Katherine's name was originally Schanbacher, but was changed to
Baker some time after her arrival in the U.S.
From card file in Emmetsburg Library, Katherine (Mrs. Fred) Myers born
February 2, 1821, died March 30, 1896 in Emmetsburg. Came to New
York in 1852, later to Wisconsin and to Palo Alto Co. at age 25.

Census info indicated that Frank was born in either Wisconsin or
N.J. His obituary states near McGregor, Iowa (just across the
river from Wisconsin).
Obituary, Emmetsburg Democrat, May 17, 1945. Had two more sons
who preceded him in death. Occupation was as a carpenter in
Emmetsburg. He placed the cross at the top of the Assumption
Church spire.
1891 Emmetsburg Town Census lists Frank Myers, age 38, Mrs., age 35,
Charles, 8, Annie, 6 and Albert, 4. Also Mrs. C. Sneider, age 65.

Myers, widowed (spouse, Mary) died May 11, 1945 of a cerebral
hemorrhage. Was born in 1855 in Iowa. Occupation:

all other records indicate Fred was born in Germany.)

Emmetsburg Democrat, August 22, 1923: Charles Meyers died at his
home in Humboldt, Iowa on August 20, 1923. Funeral was held
August 22 at Assumption Church, Enmetsburg, Iowa with burial in St.
John's Cemetery. Mr. Meyers was born in Wisconsin, November 29,
1855. His age was 68. His parents came to Palo Alto Co.
when he was a small boy. He married Ella Murphy in
Wisconsin. They lived in Palo Alto Co. for a number of years,
then moved to Wisconsin. Later they lived in Emmetsburg and at
Excelsior Springs, Missouri for some time. Three years ago they
moved to Humboldt. They are survived by an adopted
daughter. Sympathy to Mrs. Meyers, the daughter, brothers,
sisters and other relatives.

an automobile while crossing the street near a tourist camp in St.
Joseph, Missouri on August 30, 1938. He was taken to the
hospital, but lived only about an hour.

Meyers were held at Assumption Church on September 2, 1938.
Deceased was born at Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin in September, 1861.
Came to Emmetsburg as a youngster. His father and mother operated
a hotel in the old town of Emmetsburg. Married in 1888 to Rachel
Wager. Survived by following children: Mrs,. Sam Drew;
Dave, George, Edward and Albert Meyers of Emmetsburg,;Mrs. Gilford
McNamara of St. Paul, Minnesota,; Mrs. Walter Knapp ofr Linden, IA;
Jean Meyers of Waterloo; Mrs. George Finnegan of Ayrshire; Mrs Cecil
Gregerson of Pocahontas. Two daughters preceded the father in
death: Mrs. Lou Nichtals, and Mrs, Ralph Wood.
