Augusta's name has been listed as Wente or Wenthe.  However, all church records in Germany, discovered in March, 2005, indicate that her name is Wendt.

Augusta's name has been listed as Wente or Wenthe.  However, all church records in Germany, discovered in March, 2005, indicate that her name is Wendt.

Ship: Ocean, From: Bremen, To: New York, Arrived:  27 June 1871.  Passengers included Gottlieb Stahlhut, age 67, tailor, Engel, age 70, Gottlieb, age 43, weaver, Caroline, age 45, Engel, age 13, Ernst, age 16, Friedrich, age 9, Heinrich, age 5 and Sophie, age .11.  All listed as being from Prussia, destination Illinois.   Information found in Germans to America, confirmed with microfilm of actual passenger list, State Historical Society of Wisconsin, Madison, call #P77-1149.

Karl Heinrich Stahlhut and his wife, Engel Maria Dierks Stahlhut are listed in the records of Immanual Lutheran Church, Palatine, Illinois as members.  The records also give the death and burial dates for both.  At this time, it is not known for sure where they were buried.  However, since Union Cemetery was the cemetery for Immanuel Lutheran, it is logical to assume that is their burial place.  Laverne, the church secretary, walked the cemetery on March 17, 2002 looking for gravestones.  She didn't find any, however there are some that are so worn that they are blank or illegible.
